Are you an apple or a pear?
I’m sure if I started to test your knowledge on a landlocked country called Uganda I would win hands down. Mainly because I lived there and know more about the country that most people in the UK and USA. As you can imagine, I was intrigued when I took an article claiming that colon cancer in Uganda is a fraction of that of the United Kingdom and USA. In colon cancer is the third species is the most common cancer here in the United Kingdom.
So why this difference?
Well firstly the average Ugandan defecates at least 2 times a day and when he defecates it is also much more than we … Charming! Can we say … but very important!
For some time now doctors have believed that colon cancer is linked to food and that is why it is so interesting. This is also why Uganda in May have the answer to reducing the incidence of colon cancer here in the United Kingdom.
Ugandans living on a diet of corn, potatoes, rice, fish, peanuts, berries and bananas mashed tasty. For they will add mango, pineapple and sweet bananas. Bananas are soft red skin and if you’ve never tasted let me tell you from experience that they are absolutely delicious!
But there is something else, Ugandans eat almost no meat. So they have a diet rich in fiber and low in fat, different from our diet low in fiber and fat as much fat from animal sources.
The news that we need to have a diet rich in fiber to keep our health settlers is not new, but what these statistics in Uganda do is save the theory all along that high fiber and low in fat reduces the risk of colon cancer. OK, so far as the protection of our colon is concerned about old news. What about looking at the foods that stimulate our colon?
OLGIOSACCHARIDES are what we want, and they come beautifully packaged in artichokes, asparagus, onions, garlic and mushrooms. All these products to promote colonic flora [bacteria]
Yogurt and fermented milk products containing live lactobacilli and promote other healthy microflora. The water helps to swell the fiber and promotes peristalsis [wavelike movements of the colon]. This in turn regulates the movement of the intestine and manages the content through.
It may also be a good time to develop a taste for fine wines.
Pop open that bottle of Merlot and enjoy knowing that you’re doing good. Drinking red wine has been shown to protect against colon cancer, where, like other alcohols have the opposite effect if you enjoy!
We’ve all been reminded recently, the level of obesity in the United Kingdom and USA. In the United Kingdom 17% of men and 21% of women are obese. Extra fat around the waist [the look Apple] increases the risk of colorectal cancer more than extra weight around the thighs or hips [look pear] Make it a priority to try to reach your weight and maintain it. Colon cancer is a real threat to the United Kingdom and the U.S. population, but it is in your power to reduce this threat. Reduce your body fat and increase your fiber, try to get your weight and give you a regular dose of red wine!
