A colonoscopy May Save Your Life

Colonoscopy and colonoscopy. They used to be high tech and rarely spoke. Now colonoscopies are so common and regularly both as a means of diagnosis, monitoring and as a course of preventative family members who are at high risk for disorders of the intestine of some and of course in families with a known high incidence of what is suspected to be a genetic predisposition to colon cancer and colon cancer. This procedure has become so commonplace and comfort that a patient after long exposure to the softness of her doctor – the gastroenterologist has been trained in its care, skill and procedure explained his choice of surgery was a day at the hospital where the procedure was done. In and out in one day, no fuss, no muss.

When asked he also proved that the day surgery for the colonoscopy procedure there was no anesthesia involved. In fact, colonoscopy is currently a relatively simple procedure that takes 30 minutes or less. Fearing, however, the test is not a reason not to. Having done a standard colonoscopy can save your life.

During a colonoscopy, endoscope – which is the qualified person performing the procedure – will insert a scope of colon and progress in the length of the colon. The scope of the colon has a light source itself, and transmits the image and the images from the colon on a display screen monitored by trained endoscopes. All this just as a TV and a television.

What is the procedure or can show or do. First what we look for the inflamed areas or areas of the diseased colon, inflamed or downright suspicious. If these areas are – say, a small growth or polyp, and endoscopes can actually take a sample or biopsy directly, so it can be tested and examined by a surgeon or a laboratory. Another good use for the test and procedure are for surveillance and monitoring. It is in families that have an increased risk in their family tree for, say, cancers of the colon, or perhaps someone had some problems or concerns in the past and, in essence, the doctor will see just the ’status of any change or changes if necessary.

However, a test of significance of the colon is not for everyone. This is not a test that you feel about something you should ask your doctor to have done. This is a serious test yet useful and its use is a risk versus benefit consideration. It belongs to both your physician and often a doctor gastroenterologist trained to determine if the test is justified for yourself or a loved member of the family.
